Porsche 968 manual, Australian-delivered, called 24 Sep 2026.
Published before the hammer on 24 Sep 2026 and graded against what the car actually made. The thesis below is the one that went up, unedited.
A 1993 Porsche 968 running on Collecting Cars out of Byron Bay, New South Wales — Iris Blue over Midnight Blue leather, 156,088 kilometres the seller believes genuine, an ORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN-MARKET car complied December 1993, six-speed manual, VIN WP0ZZZ96ZRS800141, on 17-inch Cup 2 wheels, with a genuine Porsche Big Red brake upgrade, Koni coilovers and a Clubsport steering wheel, serviced November 2025 at about 150,000km and by Motor Renn Werks in May 2024 and March 2023.
The Five Dock car was a four-speed automatic Cabriolet whose service file stopped in June 2021 with no timing-belt job recorded anywhere in sixteen entries, on an interference engine where the belt is $3,500 and a snapped one is a $24,000 rebuild. This is the manual coupe with services in 2023, 2024 and 2025 and a typed history document in the gallery. The refusal was about the belt, and this car has a live file.
Until 18 September a record with no Australian sale got 42 per cent either side, which the re-measurement says is far too narrow and symmetric in the wrong direction. It now gets minus 45 and plus 20 around a midpoint moved down ten per cent, which is what 455 held-out sales say an eighty-five per cent interval needs to be. A record with nothing under it is now callable honestly rather than not callable at all.
That is the largest departure from its own model this desk has published, and here is the reason.
$47,000 for a Club Sport, $45,000 for a 1993 968, $39,900 for a Club Sport at 96,000km, and $25,000 for a coupe. Two undated Shannons panel figures of $76,000 and $41,000 carry no car and no date and cannot be used. A hammer sits below an ask, and the ladder pays 60 for a VIN-verified Club Sport, so an ordinary manual coupe belongs under the two Club Sport asks rather than fifteen thousand dollars above the highest of them. The carried $57,500 is research and the research is above the market.
Under the $47,000 and $45,000 asks by the margin a hammer usually sits under an ask, and above the $39,900 Club Sport ask by the margin this car's Big Reds, Konis, Australian delivery and three years of documented servicing earn. Predicted hammer $23,000 to $50,500, midpoint $42,000.
And the value stops being research. That is worth more to this record than the call is.
The call is a prediction of one hammer. The record behind it is the Australian evidence for the model as a whole, and it carries its own grade for how much of that evidence exists.
