The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($30,693 to $44,369). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

Strong within its price band. Scores 57/100, ranking 25 of 94 in the $30k to $100k band. Scarcity is the strongest input, risk resilience the weakest.
Running it costs about $5,800 a year (13.8% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $7,515 a year.
The model's five year median is $36,505, a -13.1% move, with the tenth percentile at $30,693.

7 completed Australian sales of 7 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

A naturally aspirated V8 manual Quattro wagon is a combination Audi never repeated, and only around 900 are estimated to have reached Australia. Values are up about 30 per cent since 2016 as fast-wagon enthusiasts compete for remaining manual examples, though a fifth off the 2024 high.

The case against

The V8 Quattro drivetrain costs meaningfully more to run than a turbo four rival, and the engine has documented timing chain guide and oil consumption issues. Servicing at a specialist is close to mandatory to avoid expensive failures. Internationally only 58 per cent of lots clear, and the seven Australian results have fallen 29 per cent in about eighteen months, with one chassis losing 39 per cent between two of them.

Seven Australian results and this record was a third too high

Fitted against distance they correlate at minus 0.869 and imply 5.4 per cent per 10,000 kilometres, against the 1.7 assumed here. The fitted value at the 140,000 kilometres this record expects is $43,929 on the full sample, and $40,853 on the 2023-24 results alone. The value moves $58,000 to $42,000.

The market fell hard between 2022 and 2023

The three 2021-22 results average $52,333; the four 2023-24 results average $37,250. That is 29 per cent off in about eighteen months, and no result since 2022 has beaten $47,000.

And one chassis measures it on its own

VIN WUAZZZ8E87N904065 appears twice: $47,000 at 129,385 kilometres in February 2023, then $28,500 at 150,500 kilometres in September 2024. Same car, 21,000 kilometres and nineteen months later, 39 per cent less money. That is the cleanest single-chassis measurement in this library and it is worth more than any pair of different cars.

A data-quality warning

VIN WUAZZZ8E17N903825 appears on three separate listings and their odometers do not run forwards - 92,190km in June 2021, 181,715km in June 2022, then 155,800km in November 2023. At least one of those three is misattributed. They are carried because they sit inside the trend the rest of the sample shows, and they should be the first rows replaced when a named auction-house figure appears. SOURCING: aggregator-surfaced auction results, not confirmed against the auction house, the weakest evidence grade in this library.

The international record is wider than the local one

Twenty-four B7 RS4 lots appear in it, against the seven Australian results above.

International context

58 per cent sold, and the record mixes all three body styles - Avant, saloon and cabriolet - which are separate markets sharing one name. British Avant results run unconverted at GBP20,025 in 2023, GBP27,281 in 2024 and GBP21,708 in 2026, while saloons made GBP12,960 and GBP10,152 and cabriolets GBP12,985 and GBP11,812. The wagon carries a clear premium over both. No direction is read from the series: the connected run ends too early to describe the present market, and a GBP65,250 result in 2021 was four times its contemporaries and has been set aside as a different car.

The Pymble lot describes itself as one owner from new, which sharpens the data-quality warning above

That car showed 92,190 kilometres in June 2021 in the hands of its only owner. The two later listings attributed to the same VIN show 181,715 kilometres a year afterwards and 155,800 kilometres two years afterwards. A single-owner car does not add 89,000 kilometres in twelve months and then lose 26,000 in the next seventeen. At least one of those two attributions is wrong, and the Pymble result is the one of the three to trust. It was also ordered with the sunroof deleted - a specification collectors of this model seek out, and part of why it is the high of the run.
