The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($59,544 to $86,651). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

Strong within its price band. Scores 64/100, ranking 2 of 94 in the $30k to $100k band. Scarcity is the strongest input, risk resilience the weakest.
Running it costs about $5,950 a year (11.4% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $3,044 a year.
The model's five year median is $69,709, a +34.1% move, with the tenth percentile at $59,544.

6 completed Australian sales of 6 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

The Evo the market settled on: a titanium turbine, a helical front differential and a world champion's name, built in small numbers and now the only 4G63 Evo trading as a collectable rather than as a used performance car. Australian RS2s are rarer than the JDM cars and price accordingly.

The case against

Six Australian results and not one of them is a standard car - every one has been opened, which means the value here prices a build and a buyer is trusting somebody else's machining. The 4G63 breaks ringlands when it is pushed, and at 350kW-plus it is being pushed.

Known faults and risks

Risk 1Every recorded Australian sale is a modified car
Risk 2Ringland failure on hard-tuned 4G63s
Risk 3Odometer clusters swapped during builds - the RS2's read 10,248 against a true 47,838
Risk 4JDM GSR and Australian RS2 are different markets sharing a name
4G63 rebuild after ringland failure$12,000
Gearbox rebuild$4,500

Six Australian TME results, and the odometer does not sort them

Across the four Japan-delivered GSR cars the correlation between distance and price is PLUS 0.55 - the wrong sign, on four points, which is noise rather than a finding. The two dearest are the two with the most paperwork: $58,500 at Lidcombe, New South Wales in November 2025, a 120,398-kilometre car with a factory sunroof, a house-verified sale, import papers, Japanese log books, receipts and dyno sheets; and $57,500 at Montmorency, Victoria in March 2025, number 152 of the 3,020 GSRs built, at 156,726 kilometres. The cheapest, $44,500 at Keysborough, Victoria in July 2024, is number 2,626 and the least distance in the set at 110,664 kilometres. kmPct is therefore set at a nominal 0.5 and this record does NOT claim to have measured it.

Read the rest of the evidence notes (4 more)
Every one of these cars has been built, which is the point about the model

Two carry 2.3-litre stroker rebuilds, one a forged 2.0 by Evolution R, and the near-standard car is the cheapest of the four. A standard, unopened TME did not appear once in six results, so the value here prices a documented built car, and an untouched original would sit above it rather than below.

The Australian-delivered RS2 is a different and dearer car again

$80,500 at Brisbane in December 2022, one of about 103 RS2s delivered new to Australia and one of 27 in black, one owner for 21 years and never tracked, at a true 47,838 kilometres - the Ralliart 300km/h cluster reads 10,248 because it was fitted at 37,000. Local delivery, single ownership and half the distance of the JDM cars, and it made 39 per cent more than the best of them.

The $95,850 Melbourne result in July 2025 is the highest on record

And its specification is not established from the source; it is carried as the ceiling rather than as a comparable.

The value of $52,000 is the middle of the four JDM GSR cars

- median $51,750, mean $51,625, fitted $51,876 at the 130,000 kilometres this record treats as standard. It prices a Japan-delivered GSR TME with a documented build, not an Australian RS2. SOURCING: five of the six are read from the Collecting Cars lot pages themselves, which is where the build, numbering and documentation detail above comes from.
