The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($29,357 to $38,915). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

A defensible case with reservations. Scores 51/100, ranking 66 of 94 in the $30k to $100k band. Liquidity is the strongest input, scarcity the weakest.
Running it costs about $4,450 a year (11.7% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $5,506 a year.
The model's five year median is $35,140, a -7.5% move, with the tenth percentile at $29,357.

6 completed Australian sales of 6 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

A named Australian auction result behind the value, the last car to wear the Monaro badge, and a market that has already shown which examples it wants: stock, manual, documented. The CV8-Z gives the range a collector apex.

The case against

Supply is genuinely large and only the disciplined examples appreciate; a modified auto CV8 is just a used coupe. The 2022 result sits at the strong end of the market that followed.

Four sales, three no-sales, and the clearance rate is the story

The sales fit at minus 0.639 with 3.2 per cent per 10,000 kilometres against the 1.0 assumed here, and return about $37,800 at 90,000 kilometres. But three Australian Monaros failed to sell inside two months in 2026: 84,000km at Lismore in June, a 34,783-kilometre MANUAL at Glendale in May, and a third in June with no distance published. A 34,783-kilometre manual CV8 failing is the significant one - that is close to the best car the model offers. The value moves $45,000 to $38,000 and the risks now carry the clearance problem. SOURCING: aggregator-surfaced results, unconfirmed against the auction house, the weakest evidence grade here.

Australian auction record

A Monaro CV8 coupe made $43,500 at the Shannons Summer timed auction in February 2022 - a real, named transaction that anchors this value directly. The kilowatt figure here is the late VZ specification at 260kW; early V2 cars ran 225-245kW and trade slightly below.

Why the CV8 matters

It is the affordable modern Holden coupe with a fixed end date, the last Monaro, and the American export program (as the Pontiac GTO) took enough production to keep local supply honest.

The market split

Manuals over autos, originality over mods, and the CV8-Z run-out above both - a Z with kilometres and books is the collector pick of the range. Most surviving CV8s have been modified in the LS1 tuner idiom, which leaves clean stock cars carrying the appreciation.
