The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($165,323 to $348,751). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

Strong within its price band. Scores 71/100, ranking 14 of 104 in the over $100k band. Scarcity is the strongest input, liquidity the weakest.
Running it costs about $7,500 a year (3.1% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $11,405 a year.
The model's five year median is $237,777, a -2.9% move, with the tenth percentile at $165,323.

Scored against every recent Australian sale this library holds, half its values land within 11.2 per cent of the price paid and the rest miss by more, in either direction. Projections are therefore damped toward flat in proportion to how little is known, and the plausible band is never narrower than the error the model is known to make.

2 completed Australian sales of 2 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

A genuine limited-run special of only 1,000 units worldwide, with an estimated 25 Australian deliveries of a two-seat, weight-reduced M4 formula BMW is unlikely to repeat. Most examples remain under factory warranty, and immediate collector interest has been strong since launch.

The case against

It is still on its early depreciation curve from a high launch price, having fallen by close to a third in its first four years. The market is niche at 44 days on market, and it is too recent to have proven long-term collector durability the way older limited BMWs have. Overseas results reinforce that: the four auction appearances worldwide since 2023 fall steadily, and the most recent car did not sell at all. Both Australian results are delivery-mileage stored cars, so the figure has still not been tested against a driven, registered example.

This record opened with no Australian result at all,

And the international frame it was built on is set out below. Only four M4 CSLs had appeared at auction anywhere, none of them here, which is unsurprising for a 1,000-car model with about twenty-five delivered to Australia.

International context

Three of the four lots sold. The sequence is short but consistently downward - EUR158,700 at RM Villa Erba in May 2023, US$123,200 at RM Miami in March 2024, EUR120,750 at RM Munich in October 2025, and then a car that failed to sell at a GBP110,000-120,000 estimate in July 2026. In AUD terms those convert to roughly $263,000 falling to $188,000-$200,000, with the 2026 no-sale reserve near $215,000. Every result since 2023 sits below the value carried here, and four lots is too small a sample to act on alone, but the direction is one-way.

The first two Australian results on this record, and they are as controlled a pair as this library ever gets

Both cars are Frozen Brooklyn Grey. Both are delivery mileage - 69 kilometres and 28 kilometres. Neither had been used. One made $350,000 in June 2023; the other made $237,500 in October 2024.

Minus 32.1 per cent in sixteen months

Distance, colour, specification and condition are all held constant, so what is left is the market, and the market halved the premium in under a year and a half.

That is what a limited-Edition delivery-mileage car does, and this library has now seen it three times

The FK8 Civic Type R Limited Edition at minus 36.8 per cent over thirty-three months across four cars, the HSV GTSR W1 sedan off its 2021 peak, and now the M4 CSL. Buying the unregistered example and storing it is the most reliably expensive thing an owner can do with one of these.

The value sits six per cent above the October 2024 result

Once that result is de-adjusted to the expected distance, which is $230,140. It has not been marked down further because two points do not make a trend line worth extrapolating two more years, and because both cars are unregistered stored examples rather than the used car this record is meant to describe. The first result on a driven, registered CSL will be worth more than either of these.
