The green band is the even-money range and the one to plan on: half of outcomes land inside it. The pale band behind it bounds eight in ten ($24,931 to $36,057). The path is this model's own: it starts along the momentum of its recorded history and bends toward its projected median as the horizon lengthens, so no two cars share a future curve.

The verdict

The numbers argue against it. Scores 46/100, ranking 88 of 94 in the $30k to $100k band. Demand durability is the strongest input, scarcity the weakest.
Running it costs about $9,250 a year (23.1% of value), which is what the economics score measures. All in, including the projected value change, it is $11,749 a year.
The model's five year median is $31,106, a -22.2% move, with the tenth percentile at $24,931.

19 completed Australian sales of 22 rows. Rows marked asking, no sale, or context are shown for honesty but do not count toward the evidence grade: an ask is not a transaction, a pass-in is a refusal, and a provenance or overseas result does not price the ordinary local car. The badge on every row is computed by the same rule as the grade, so the two cannot drift apart.

No forecast is used to compute the hurdle. It is the purchase, the duty, any premium and 5 years of running cost, grossed up for the cost of selling and spread back over the hold. The projection it is measured against is the weakest number in this product and is drawn that way in the chart above. Transport, finance and any restoration spend sit outside it.

The case for and against

The case for

The 6.2 NA V8 is the reason the car stopped depreciating in 2019. PPP and 507 cars lead and drag the rest up.

The case against

Head bolt and cam lobe issues on early engines cost five figures. The engine that makes the car is also its risk. Nineteen Australian results put the ordinary car between $24,000 and $57,000 with the odometer explaining little of the spread, and at 18.5 per cent of value a year to run it is among the most expensive cars in the library to hold relative to what it is worth.

Nineteen ordinary Australian results, and the W204 C63 is already at its floor

They fit at minus 0.404 with 2.2 per cent per 10,000 kilometres and return about $38,700 at the 130,000 this record expects; the value moves $50,000 to $40,000.

The range is narrow and distance barely sorts it

$50,000 for a 151,517-kilometre coupe against $32,250 for an 86,577-kilometre sedan. Body style is doing more work than the odometer - coupes cluster in the high forties and estates and sedans in the mid thirties, at every distance.

The M156 is priced for its head bolts

A car this cheap with a naturally aspirated 6.2 costs more to fix than to buy when the bolts go, and the market has settled at a level that reflects it.

Two no-sales, including a 66,000-kilometre car

In November 2025, which is low for this model.

The specials are a different market entirely and are held as context

The Black Series made $280,000 at 9,156km in February 2025 and $251,000 at 11,312km in April 2026 - seven times an ordinary car, and DOWN ten per cent in fourteen months. The 507 Edition made $84,000 at 18,879km. Both need their own entries. SOURCING: aggregator-surfaced results, unconfirmed against the auction house, the weakest evidence grade here.

This record once carried no auction evidence at all and said so in those words;

That is no longer the position. Nineteen ordinary Australian results now sit under it, all of them from 2022 onwards, which is what happens once a used performance saloon becomes cheap enough to turn over in volume. The international record is still thin, so the framing that follows is inference rather than measurement. The figure was revised down from $70,040 to $50,000 in 2026. The earlier number reflected the top of the market - a late, low-kilometre car - rather than a representative one, and the history curve behind it showed steady appreciation that the market has not delivered. Depreciation is still the dominant force on this model: it launched at $154,900. The spread on this car is very wide and driven by specification and kilometres rather than by the market. Early 2008-2011 sedans with high kilometres sit far below this figure; late MY12 and MY13 cars with the facelift, low kilometres and the performance package sit well above it, and can approach $70,000. Estate and coupe bodies price differently again. A single number describes this model worse than most cars in the library.
