Projected value in five years
The case for and against
Widely regarded as the best FWD hot hatch of its generation thanks to RevoKnuckle suspension engineering that largely eliminated torque steer. Only around 300 examples reached Australia and values have nearly doubled since 2016 on strong enthusiast demand.
It is a niche pick with a thin market at 48 days on market, and clutch and driveshaft wear is common on cars that have been driven hard. RS500 examples carry a huge premium that most buyers cannot access given how few reached Australia. Only 61 per cent of international lots clear, and the model splits sharply between delivery-mileage collector cars and ordinary used ones - two sold on the same day in August 2024 at GBP67,500 and GBP22,500. The value here sits nearer the collector end than the median car.
Known faults and risks
Similar cars, and what they cost to run
$38,000 at 60,718km in Warragul, Victoria on 10 July 2026. A 15,188-kilometre car failed to sell at Darra in November 2025, which is the lowest-distance Mk2 in the Australian record failing to find a buyer. Two points is not a curve and the value is unchanged pending a third. SOURCING: aggregator-surfaced results, unconfirmed against the auction house, the weakest evidence grade here.

A 2010 Focus RS made $52,500 at Shannons in November 2022, the only Australian auction result on record. The lot page states 315 Australian deliveries, which is a seller claim rather than a factory figure but is the most specific number anyone has published; this record now uses it in place of the round 300 it carried.
It carries a genuine Mountune RS500 airbox and Mountune cosmetic trim, and an Airtec alloy inlet plenum replacing the factory plastic one that is the model’s known failure point. None of that is a Mountune power conversion, which is what this record excludes and what its unmodified option prices against. A reliability fix and a badge are not a state of tune, and a car should not be marked down for the plenum that stops it destroying itself.
Fifty-nine lots, 61 per cent clearing, which is on the weaker side. Twenty-nine ordinary British cars sold unconverted between GBP15,256 and GBP43,875 with a median near GBP27,563. Four cars came in far above that band - GBP52,072, GBP56,250, GBP63,000 and GBP67,500 - and are set aside from the price series. Three of the four sold within four months of each other in 2022, which looks like a brief speculative spike in the very best examples rather than a shift in the model. The clearest illustration is a single sale: at Silverstone on 24 August 2024, two 2010 Focus RS crossed the block on the same day at GBP67,500 and GBP22,500 - three times apart. Delivery-mileage collector cars and used ones are effectively two markets sharing a name, and a single figure describes neither. Mountune-converted cars are also excluded, as the conversion is a separate proposition.

The evidence on this model is thin and the report says so on its cover. Read a complete one on a real car first. Seventeen sections, no account, nothing to pay.
One line of email when this desk publishes a call on a Ford Focus RS, or records a new Australian sale of one. Nothing else, no schedule, and on a quiet model you may hear nothing for months, which is itself worth knowing about a car you are chasing.
